5 Wherefore it came to pass that my father, Lehi, as he went forth prayed unto the Lord, yea, even with all his heart, in behalf of his people.
Surely as Nephi was engraving, especially as he just barely began his record, he would have been very careful about which words he chose and the placement of them. Yet, in verse 5, he chose to include after "prayed to the Lord" these words: "yea (adding emphasis), even with all his heart." Why did he choose to add those 6 words? I believe his choice to do so should give me pause. Lehi was praying for his people-with all his heart. Then he was called to be an instrument in God's hands to bless the very people he was praying for.
God used him to help answer his own prayer.
Was God pleased with Lehi's righteous desires and his articulation of them? Yes. Therefore, I should verbalize my righteous desires to God. He will be glad I asked AND may help me to be involved the in the requested blessing.
The people ended up being destroyed BUT, Lehi's family was saved. Why? I believe it was because Lehi prayed "yea, even with all his heart", and was committed to following Christ, coupled with the will of God. Did Lehi's prayer initiate the entire Book of Mormon and subsequently bless millions, even billions of people? Surely more than he thought when the prayer was offered.
When we ask for bread, I've learned God delights in blessing us with a bakery.
