18 And the large and spacious building, which thy father saw, is vain imaginations and the pride of the children of men. And a great and a terrible gulf divideth them; yea, even the word of the justice of the Eternal God, and the Messiah who is the Lamb of God, of whom the Holy Ghost beareth record, from the beginning of the world until this time, and from this time henceforth and forever

The angel's words are so beautiful!

I wonder what vain imaginations are? (I could probably imagine what vain imaginations are. I find it interesting that imagining takes effort. When I give myself to imagining, I hope it is time well spent.)

So the building, representing those imaginations, is pride. I know for a fact I have indulged in self-gratifying pride. But that is why Jesus atoned for me, to redeem me, and keep me from that building (and to give me power to resist the temptation to look at it longingly) when I come to Him with a repentant heart.

I also find it very interesting that the "terrible gulf" that divides them (from the tree I think?) is "the word of the justice of the Eternal God, and the Messiah who is the Lamb of God of whom the Holy Ghost beareth record..."

So the dividing gulf is the word of the justice of God. That makes sense? I guess? Wait, not really. Well, kind of? Justice honors agency. But what is the word of justice?

So much to learn and ponder!

(I love that the "angel" references all 3 members of the Godhead here so beautifully!)
