16 Nevertheless, I did look unto my God, and I did praise him all the day long; and I did not murmur against the Lord because of mine afflictions.

I have a hard time imagining this scenario.

If Nephi was bound upright and outside, he did not rest, change position, sleep, or get any relief from his pain- while in a storm face on, with no shelter, getting pelted, tossed around, freezing and drenched for 4 days! And likely with little to no food or water.

And here's the part I can't imagine- praising God all the day long.

I can absolutely see not murmuring against God, but praising Him, when he was in such anguish? (As must also his wife, parents and sweet children must have been!!)

I think I would be praying nonstop for relief, for Laman and Lemuel to "see," and for my family.

I'm sure he did, but that's not what he wrote.

He wrote, after describing his exceeding soreness, "Nevertheless, I did look unto my God, and I did praise Him all the day long."

I feel like I have a great lesson to learn here.

I can, I should, I must, give glory and gratitude to God in all things.

I will do that today.

I'll praise God in and give thanks for all my experiences, and for His son who runs to our aid to succor us!

(Maybe being tied up helped him not be tossed? Maybe the cold and wet helped with the swelling? Whether there were blessings in disguise or not, I know God was with Nephi on that pole.

And He's here with me (us) too.

He suffers with us, and deserves our praise- always.
