19 And Jacob and Joseph also, being young, having need of much nourishment, were grieved because of the afflictions of their mother; and also my wife with her tears and prayers, and also my children, did not soften the hearts of my brethren that they would loose me.
The last few verses are so heartbreaking I can hardly stand it!
Did Laman and Lemuel work hard at hardening their hearts so hard that even little children couldn't penetrate them?
How did they later turn, change, and soften their hearts when they were at one point so hardened?
It must mean we always have a choice. We are never "too far gone" that we no longer have control over our agency.
Apparently, we can always choose to choose the right.
But how long will they let their hearts be like stone? I'd be scared of them. I do appreciate the honest picture of a highly dysfunctional family in scriptures, and how the Lord deals with each member in it.
I love the honesty, hope, and mercy in this beautiful book.
