18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments—then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea.

Question: How is peace like a river?

Pondering: Rivers are constant, always flowing in the right way, plentiful, resourceful, follows the course nature (God) intended.

I'm sure there is more I'm not seeing. I don't see yet the connection between peace and a river to describe peace. And why is "righteousness as the waves of the sea?"

More to contemplate!

Waves are always moving forward to the shore, driven by wind, gravity and energy.

I'm not sure of the symbolism yet between waves and righteousness but I love the thoughts to ponder!

I'll definitely have more to think about now when I look at moving bodies of water.

Wait! Christ is the Living Water. And both of these symbols involve water that is moving. What does that mean?

I think I'm getting closer as I'm trying to ponder.

I love how (I can see now) that they symbolize Christ.

Maybe it's not so much about the "peace" and "righteousness" in isolation, as it about Jesus Christ - who IS Peace and Righteousness. Jesus IS ultimate symbol of peace and righteousness. The Living Waters.

(Also, this is so beautiful when read with v13!)

I love this book.
