30 Wherefore, my brethren, I would that ye should consider that the things which have been written upon the plates of brass are true; and they testify that a man must be obedient to the commandments of God.
31 Wherefore, ye need not suppose that I and my father are the only ones that have testified, and also taught them. Wherefore, if ye shall be obedient to the commandments, and endure to the end, ye shall be saved at the last day. And thus it is. Amen.
I don't want Nephi to go! (I mean he's writing a little bit more in 2nd Nephi but not much!)
I love how he finishes up his personal record with his testimony that the scriptures are true. (Did he know that millions of people in the future would testify that the scriptures he wrote are true? Me included.)
I can imagine him reading Isaiah, answering his brothers' questions, bearing his testimony, (v30) and finally saying, "And thus it is."
I can imagine him getting up after saying those words, maybe head down and heavy in spirit, and giving the floor to his father who will speak next. Was everyone there? How are Laman and Lemuel taking these scriptural truths from the plates that they risked their lives to retreive? What about their wives? What were the family dynamics like at this point? Did Zoram miss his family? (Probably a stupid question.) Did Sam ever teach too? And what about Nephi's sisters? And Sariah (was she still alive?) Was Ishmael's wife still alive?
I'm so sad to see this generation go. Lehi, Nephi, Jacob. I appreciate that we got so much of their account! So many details. There's still much I want to know, but am SO grateful for what we have.
Especially their testimonies.
