1 Nephi 4:32

32 And it came to pass that I spake with him, that if he would hearken unto my words, as the Lord liveth, and as I live, even so that if he would hearken unto our words, we would spare his life.

"As the Lord liveth"- quite a promise!


It's also in 3:15, and my favorite verse in Alma 22, as well as several other places in the Book of Mormon.


First, Nephi tells this to his brothers- "As the Lord liveth"... we will not go back to our father without the plates. And now to Zoram- promising that they won't kill or harm him if he will go with them.


I wonder if I would ever feel the need to use such a powerful phase, or if I dared.


Nephi uses these words a solemn promise. "As the Lord liveth..." As surely as there is a God- Nephi will follow through.
