1 And now I would that ye might know, that after my father, Lehi, had made an end of prophesying concerning his seed, it came to pass that the Lord spake unto him again, saying that it was not meet for him, Lehi, that he should take his family into the wilderness alone; but that his sons should take daughters to wife, that they might raise up seed unto the Lord in the land of promise.

Lehi had just prophesied that the brass plates would go forth to all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, who were of his seed - yet he just took his children, single, into the wilderness. I don't think there were many marriage prospects in the wilderness.

Did he pray about this? Nephi said that "after my father had made an end of prophesying concerning his seed... the Lord spake unto him again" and told him where, who, and how to get wives for his sons, so they could have the 'seed' that was promised.

So since the Lord spoke to Lehi, and then spoke to him again, it seems like there was some space in between.

I just wonder if Lehi asked how that promise would be fulfilled, or if he asked for daughters -in-law directly, and how much the boys must have thought about it!

I also wonder about the girls. I believe Nephi had sisters too, only because they are mentioned, just once, in a future chapter. Or maybe I am wrong?

In 2nd Nephi 5:6, Nephi wrote, 'I Nephi did take my family, Zoram and his family, and Sam my elder brother and his family, and Jacob and Joseph, my younger brethren, and also my sisters..."

I think the only 2 options to interpret this is that they are either his biological sisters or his sisters-in-law. Did he have sisters this whole time? If so, then the questions begin to flood -why are they not talked about in this record? Are they mentioned in the book of Lehi? Did they get husbands? Did they bring husbands?? (Which changes the seed question.) What were their names? They must have been believers because they followed Nephi.

I wish I knew more about them! And again- why aren't they talked about? This question unsettles me, but I believe there's a good reason.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that truth is not dependent upon my believing it or understanding it. There's a LOT I desire to understand better. For now, I trust God and take my questions to Him.
