13 And now, my brethren, I would that ye should humble yourselves before God, and bring forth fruit meet for repentance, that ye may also enter into that rest.
"Fruit meet for repentance" deserves pondering.
If fruit = works/actions, and "meet" according to the dictionary means 'fulfill or satisfy a need, or requirement, or condition', then I think our effort, or works, is not the repentance itself. But they are a requirement for repentance.
Maybe repentance is the result or change in one's heart, that comes because of the effort. Interesting thoughts to ponder. Repentance is not the act? But the change because of the act? Worthy of thought today.
I guess it makes sense- if repentance means change, or a change of heart, then that does require action.
It's beginning to be clearer to me. (A little) (I always thought repentance was the effort itself not the resulting change of heart. Maybe it is? Maybe I'm not understanding. I'll keep trying and pondering and praying to learn.)
