25 And it came to pass that they all went forth and smote them, saying the same words, even until the last; and when the last had spoken unto them the power of God was upon Alma and Amulek, and they rose and stood upon their feet.
26 And Alma cried, saying: How long shall we suffer these great afflictions, O Lord? O Lord, give us strength according to our faith which is in Christ, even unto deliverance. And they broke the cords with which they were bound; and when the people saw this, they began to flee, for the fear of destruction had come upon them.
They asked and God provided.
What do I need deliverance from that I'm not asking for help with?
Their prayer for help included 4 things.
1. Asked for strength/power
2. Exercised/ acknowledge their faith and
3. Who that faith was centered upon.
4. Asked for deliverance.
That seems like a simple enough prayer for me to follow.
First, identify what I need deliverance from that I need help with. Then
1. Ask for strength
2. Exercise faith
3. Acknowledge Who my faith is centered upon (make sure my faith is centered on the Savior, and not the desire outcome.)
4. Ask for deliverance.
I think I already know what I'm going to pray for. And I believe God will listen and bless and deliver me according to my faith in His Son... I'll do that now.
I like that it says "they broke the cords," not that the cords were loosed. They must have been physically at the point of death, yet they received the strength that Alma prayed for. I can imagine them bursting the cords with the strength that God gave them. I wish I could see that!
No wonder everyone ran.
