11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
Too beautiful. Too powerful for words.
I can only express how I feel when I even begin to read these three verses. I can feel my spirit reacting to these words. I can feel the enormity of their message.
It's far beyond my ability to pen. But Alma captured it with his.
I can't describe what happens to my heart and soul as I read and think about these words. Is there anything written, or that has or will be written, that has a more powerful message of love than this?
Jesus didn't have to suffer my (our) sorrow, pain, suffering and sickness to save us! He only did it because He loves us! That is the love of God. That is why I'm going to take the sacrament in a few days. That is why I want to be good. In my small way, I want to love Him back.
He has done, and experienced, everything for me. I want to please Him, to thank Him, to love Him too! (Today, I'll start by trying to walk in His happy path (beyond breakfast.)
I'll try to recognize my feelings of bitterness, or annoyance or shame or despair as Satan trying to pull me off the path of happiness.
I'll count on and pray for the Savior and the Spirit, to help me stay on the straight and narrow. For all He's already done for me. I know He can, and will, do it.
